No Gray 80’s Kitchen Update

This 80’s home was sporting a tired Oak cabinet kitchen and the homeowners were so ready for a fresh, updated look.

Their top design priorities were:  an island that could comfortably accommodate their family of 4, taking down a load bearing wall to open the space, and making the kitchen look and feel modern WITHOUT any gray tones.  Can you believe it?  No gray!

They wanted all of this accomplished within their budget. We went back and forth with some options and settled on a layout that was similar to the original… but with some added tweaks that made the kitchen more functional and practical.

Relocating the fridge loosened up the bottleneck at the side door and it allowed space for a tall pantry, which gave them some much needed additional storage!

The island quartz was cut big enough to overhang on 2 sides to make room for a 4th stool and the giant overbearing ceiling fan was replaced with 2 much prettier pendants

They also opted for 36″ upper cabinets which meant they had to skip crown molding, but the height of the all white cabinets just adds to the light and bright feel of the kitchen.

I love the backsplash because it really pulls everything together!  It’s a long (3×12) subway tile with some texture to it, and it’s in the neutral beige tone the homeowners wanted for the space.  We finished it off with white grout to make it pop.

Our clients are enjoying their beautiful new kitchen and love that a modern look and feel was accomplished… sans gray!

Wall Color:  Benjamin Moore Bar Harbor Beige
