The Maynard Magic Project: Navy and Gold Kitchen Remodel

Essence and Nick reached out to us because their kitchen wasn’t keeping up with the needs of their growing family. There wasn’t enough cabinet storage, and several small partition walls throughout the space made it feel cramped.

Our goal was to help them work within the footprint to open up the space and make their dreams of a classic navy and white kitchen a reality.

Before...

The scattered partition walls, disjointed flooring, and limited natural light made the kitchen feel small, dark, and dated.

A dated kitchen featuring oak cabinets, beige tiled floors, and a granite countertop with a mosaic tile backsplash. The space includes a single window over the sink, allowing natural light to filter in. The room has a small entry door painted light blue, with outdated design elements such as a boxy wall partition and a low-hanging chandelier over the dining area. Yellow-toned walls and wood trim contribute to the old-fashioned feel, while the kitchen layout feels compact and closed off, awaiting a modern renovation.

Our main goals were:

  • Remove all of the partition walls to open up the space for the kitchen renovation
  • Install continuous hardwood flooring throughout
  • Add an island large enough to fit the whole family.

We did not move the kitchen window from its original location, but we did relocated the door further down so that we’d be able to place the stove on the outside wall. It’s now a sliding door to the back deck that lets in so much more light.

The Before & Afters

The new kitchen space blends practicality with modern finishes to give this family lots of room to grow. The new navy center island has seating for 4 and a gorgeous waterfall quartz countertop in Calacatta Castana.

On the perimeter, we used the same stone, but with a 2” thick edge, giving it a little extra detail. The matte white Café appliances pair perfectly with the soft white upper cabinets, picket tile backsplash, and gold hardware.

We also incorporated multiple storage solutions and built-ins. A tall spice cabinet, wine bottle storage, cookie sheet storage, and what Paul calls the “magic corner,” a pull-out shelving unit where a lazy Susan would otherwise be.

We’re thrilled for Nick and Essence to finally be able to enjoy their new kitchen space and are honored that they allowed us to be a part of their renovation journey. For a closer look at all the details, check out our project tour video.
