We are incredibly grateful to have met Suzanne and to be part of her journey Coming Home to Boston. This custom new construction home beautifully reflects her personality and style in every detail. In this episode of Renovation Rekindle, we crafted a home together that combines traditional elements with a modern farmhouse twist. We couldn’t be happier for her and her family and hope they enjoy many wonderful years here in New England.
The Foyer
At the front entrance, we installed a wood-stained double door with textured glass for privacy and added a modern touch using metal balusters for the staircase. We chose a deep charcoal/navy paint color for the staircase wall, Benjamin Moore’s Wescott Navy. As soon as you walk in, you’re faced with a direct view to the family room fireplace.
The Living Room
With a soaring 2 story ceiling featuring beautiful coffered ceilings, this living room pulls off being both grand and cozy at the same time. The fireplace is the first thing you see when you step into the foyer so we went bold on color, but kept it simple with a marble surround and stained wood mantle. The built in cabinet with natural wood accents gives this room yet another focal point from the kitchen. Having the kitchen and family room flow seamlessly together was a top priority on Suzanne’s wish list.
The Kitchen
Before we began, Suzanne already knew she wanted natural wood cabinets in her kitchen. Initially, I was concerned that this choice might make the space feel dark. However, we brightened it up by incorporating lighter colors on the range wall and installing tall windows to let in plenty of light. The centerpiece of the kitchen is the oversized hood with natural wood trim, featuring a curved design, pull-out spice drawers, a pot filler, and beautiful patterned tiles above the range. Adjacent to the kitchen is the dining room, which has numerous windows and opens up to the covered back porch.
Walk-in Pantry + Beverage Station
This beverage area was an unexpected addition to the floor plan. Originally planned as a closet, the nook seemed perfect for something more. Its location, right between the foyer and the open-concept living space, makes it ideal for entertaining, whether serving drinks or setting out appetizers. Additionally, it provides convenient extra storage and refrigeration space on the main floor.
Just off to the side is the walk-in pantry, featuring floor-to-ceiling open shelving. We used the same deep navy color for the built-in shelving as we did throughout the house and opted for a light blue subway tile backsplash to match the main kitchen’s subway tile.
The Office/Guest Room
This room is a versatile multi-purpose space. It features two dedicated built-in desks with ample storage for use as a home office. Additionally, an accent wall conceals a Murphy bed, allowing the room to easily transform into a convenient guest room when needed.
Mudroom & Bathroom
Just off the garage and away from the main living area, we managed fitting a mudroom with a built-in storage bench and a small bathroom. We had fun with these smaller spaces, adding a bright blue mosaic floor tile in the mudroom and using varied blue subway tiles in the shower, complemented by unique blue striped wallpaper on the bathroom walls. We also included a walk-in shower to ensure guests have everything they need on the main level.
Suzanne is absolutely over the moon and filled with emotion about her new home. We’re thrilled that we could bring her dream to life and help her begin this exciting new chapter in Massachusetts. Moments like these truly make all the hard work worth it!
