When we moved into our home last fall it wasn’t quite “finished,” which is why we’ve been slowly revealing it in pieces. We were up against a rate lock deadline (so glad we made it and locked in a low rate!) and just trying to get into the house.
Things are slowly starting to come together after a year of settling into our house. I still have a long list of things to do (that will never change,) and we’re still waiting for our kitchen refrigerator to arrive, but I have my fingers crossed that it will be in soon.
We’re very excited to be jumping into a new project, something we’ve never done before, adding a sports court to the backyard!
The yard is one of the biggest projects we’re still working on. The lot is about a half acre and naturally tiered into 3 levels, so we wanted to carefully plan out how we would use each one.
In our last home, we had a large level yard with grass and our kids rarely left the patio. Our boys are 10 and 12 now so we want to do something that they’ll get a lot out of and continue to use for a long time. The largest flat area of the lot is at the very back of the land, so that’s where we’re starting.
In true New England fashion, our oldest son loves hockey an our middle son likes to play basketball. They’ve both recently jumped onto the pickle ball bandwagon as well, so that’s how we finally landed on a multi-sport game court.
The court will be equipped for basketball and pickle ball, and will also have the ability to be iced over into a rink during the winter months for hockey!
We’re excited to get this project started this fall so our boys can have a place outside to hang out besides our driveway. I’m still working on the long term plan for the other levels.
Before we moved into the house I sketched out some ideas- we were thinking of a putting green on the 2nd level but now I’m thinking that would be a better spot for a garden and orchard with fruit trees.
The pool has a 50/50 chance of making it in, and I definitely want to keep the lowest level porch in the plans. I’m sure I’ll change my mind 500 more times before we actually finish so it will be fun to see what it morphs into!
We have been working with Sport Court Massachusetts on this, and we finally landed on the design above! We’re thrilled to get started and we’ll be sharing more details as it starts to come together.
