Dizzy Tile Kitchen Update

Dizzy Tile Kitchen Update

This kitchen renovation was part of a larger project, but the location and width remained the same as the original.  Since it was so long and narrow (less than 10′ wide) we had to get creative with how we would incorporate an island to accommodate the family of four that would eventually be living in the home.

When we purchased this house from the previous owner I did not realize just how crazy the kitchen was!  My brain must have blocked out the traumatic memory because when the project was over and I was putting the before and after’s together I was questioning whether or not this was the same house.

BEFORE:  They must have been giving this tile away for free and someone got a little carried away…The door off the kitchen was the old basement access.

AFTER:  When we updated the floor plan we relocated the basement stairs and added a laundry room off the kitchen.

BEFORE:  The tile went on for days…

AFTER:  Beyond the narrowest part of the kitchen, but still open to it, the island provides seating for four and extra storage.  There is also now seating for 2 on each side of the island instead of the traditional back placement.  This was to avoid traffic jams around the stairs up to the new family room or down to the new garage.

BEFORE:  Yikes!

AFTER:  Simple shaker style cabinets and classic subway tiles with light gray grout.

AFTER:  Access for additional storage on the back side of the island, built with back to back full depth cabinets.  It is open to both the kitchen and the dining room making it perfect for everyday use but also great for large gatherings.

Introducing the Sunlit Kitchen Project in the suburbs of Massachusetts. Our clients were dealing with a super clunky and outdated kitchen layout that just didn't flow right and was eating up way too much space. Plus, it was on the darker side and felt pretty old-school. Fixing up the layout sounded simple enough, but it definitely threw us some curveballs. However, we nailed it! We brought in this gorgeous floor-to-ceiling picture window for some killer backyard views, beside the big bay window where we moved the sink over to.
