When we first walked into this bathroom, it had all the usual suspects: basic builder-grade finishes, worn-out tile, and a space that just wasn’t living up to its full potential. Our goal for this boys’ bathroom makeover was simple. To breathe new life into the space with a fresh, layered look that was fun, stylish, and would be able to grow with the kids as they get older.
Boys' Bathroom Mood Board
The mood board was pretty easy, because we kept it a similar style to the last two projects we did in this house.
A couple of years ago, we revealed the Sunlit Kitchen Project; a full first floor renovation of their home. We then completed their primary bathroom; both spaces now have a bright and fresh feel, and a soft neutral color palette.
We kept that same palette for the boys’ bathroom with natural wood tones and brass fixtures.
From Single to Double Vanity

One of the biggest functional improvements was converting the original single vanity, into a spacious double vanity.
We replaced the outdated maple cabinetry and dark granite countertop with a natural wood vanity topped with elegant quartz, finished with a 2” thick edge.
The new setup not only maximizes space and storage, but also provides plenty of room for the kids to get ready every morning.

We swapped the tired, old floor tile for a gorgeous white and gray checkered floor that instantly adds character. This is the same tile used in the downstairs bathroom.
We removed the old beadboard from the walls and gave them a fresh coat of paint using Benjamin Moore Balboa Mist. This color created a much softer, inviting vibe.
The Shower Upgrade

The tub and shower were as builder-grade as they come. It had a basic acrylic surround with little personality and no storage.
We swapped out the plastic panels for a bold and unique subway tile design, combining a dark olive green with bright white lines for some added drama.
We also added a large built-in niche for easy access to shampoos and soaps, and finished it all off with beautiful brass fixtures, including a second handheld showerhead.
From top to bottom, we love how this bathroom renovation came together. Through layering textures, patterns, and new fixtures, you can completely change how a space feels and functions without changing the layout.
