Our house is slowly coming together and we’re excited to continue revealing rooms in our own newly built home. We recently revealed the foyer and library (even though there are no books in there yet!), and now it’s time to share the details from our mudroom and guest bathroom.
As our boys are getting into their pre-teen years, the amount of stuff they have seems to be increasing by the day. Besides shoes, coats, and backpacks, there’s also winter gear and sports equipment that makes its way into our house everyday, so I wanted to have as much storage space as possible.
For the design of the mudroom bench wall, each locker is separated with its own door, cubby, and drawer. Across from that, we added hooks for extra storage and every single one gets used!
We decided to install a built-in chalkboard as well where everyone can keep track of schedules, sports, and meals as we go in-and-out everyday.
Another thing we built into this space is a small countertop to use as a spot to drop our mail, as well as for charging phones, iPads, etc. Below that, there’s an outlet to charge the vacuum cleaner.

When I started designing the mudroom, I knew I wanted to incorporate a Star and Cross tile for the floor. I’ve always loved the look of it and was super excited when we landed on Fireclay Tile’s Mini Star and Cross design. For contrast we mixed 2 colors, Halite and Shale, and we painted all the walls and trim with Benjamin Moore Horizon OC-53. One thing I loved about working with Fireclay Tile is that all of their tile is handmade right here in the USA.

In both the mudroom and the guest bathroom, we used Fittes flush floor vents (formerly Aria Vents) in the tile floors. They’re nice because they sit flush, but they’re also fun because the flooring is incorporated right into the vent.

In the main floor bathroom the first thing you see when you walk in is the back wall of the shower, so I wanted to do something bright and fun. The emerald green square tiles are a nice splash of color and I was able to find a blue/green vanity as well as a pattern floor tile with a similar green background to pull it all together.
There’s still lots to do in our home and everyday I think of something new to add to the list. Paul loves that! I don’t think it will ever really be “done”, but I look forward to sharing more spaces as they come together.
