The 6 Best Classic Front Door Colors

Changing your front door color is an easy way to quickly update your home’s exterior and give it some curb appeal. While it’s popular to use the front door for a “pop” of color, in this blog I am sharing the best classic front door colors we have used in our projects. These colors are neutral and designed to give your front door a timeless look – so if you’re on the hunt for a neutral front door color, check out these 6 home exterior ideas!

1.) Black Front Door

Black front doors are a true classic, adding a touch of sophistication and elegance to the front of your home. It’s a neutral that pairs well with almost any siding color and home style.  Sherwin Williams Tricorn Black (SW 6258) is a great choice because it’s a true black without any undertones from other colors.

2.) Something Almost black or Charcoal

If a true black is too harsh and you’re looking for something a little softer, consider a color that’s “almost” black. For that muddy look, we love Benjamin Moore Graphite (BM 1603), shown on this soon-to-be released project!

3.) A Classic Gray Front Door

Gray hues have held strong for good reason. Gray is a versatile choice and a fantastic neutral that softens stark tones like black and white. We are huge fans of Cityscape by Sherwin Williams (SW 7067). Here, in our Farmhouse Legacy Project, we matched the garage doors to the front door.

4 & 5.) The blues

Blue can sometimes feel like a pop of color, but like your favorite pair of jeans, blue tones also act as a versatile neutral. I especially love them next to natural tones like wood and brick. Two of my favorites, Jamestown Blue and Hale Navy, are part of Benjamin Moore’s Historical Collection.

6.) A Stained Wood Front Door

Nothing beats the beauty of the grain and texture of a wood front door. Whether you are working on a solid wood door, or staining a newer stainable fiberglass door; a stained front door adds character and warmth to any entry.
