Light at the End of the Tunnel

S2 Episode 2: Light at the End of the Tunnel

Basement kids room mood board

When we got the call from Ian and Ana that they were ready to finish their basement, we knew it would be a fun project!  We had previously worked with them to renovate their main living area, and now they were ready to create an amazing playroom for their 2 young children to enjoy and create memories in.  You can check out the blog from their first project here!

BELOW:  The basement entry comes directly from their garage, so first on the wish list was a mudroom drop zone.  This area was finished with a fun black and white hexagon tile and storage cabinet for additional organization.

Taking a look at the hallway from the opposite direction you can catch a glimpse of some of the fun playroom ideas we incorporated into this space.  On this side, there is built in shelving for storage and organization across from the kids art table.  Down the hallway you can catch a glimpse of the colorful custom artwork created by local artist Lis Sartori.

The layout of the basement gave us the perfect opportunity to create a kids playhouse under the stairs.  We installed swinging saloon doors at the entry and cut in a window with shutters and a flower box on the side.  This adorable nook under the stairs is one of my favorite things in this project.

The children’s art area is defined by a half wall overlooking the main playroom, where we can catch a sneak peek of the real fun!

Ian and Ana wanted their kids to have places where they could burn lots of energy in their new playroom, so the idea of a rock climbing wall and kids gym area was one that we were really excited about!  This space offers the children lots of places to climb, jump, play… and to kick back and watch a movie once they are all tired out!
